Hi Bedford Baseball Parents,

It comes with a heavy heart as I craft this email to potential Bedford Babe Ruth players.  I've been involved with Bedford Baseball since 1997 and Bedford Babe Ruth since 2001, running it for the past 16 years.  Our mission statement was to provide both recreational and competitive baseball for the youth of Bedford between the ages of 13-22. We have done that very well over the years with Senior Babe Ruth, developing a joint venture with Manchester Pony League with Colt, Palamino, and Thoroughbred Leagues. We started Bedford Junior Legion in 2008 and Senior Legion in 2009, it folded last year due to the low numbers. Now Bedford Babe Ruth has slowly seen its number of teams dwindle from 12 teams in 2002, to 3 teams last year. I always knew when the Bedford HS came on line with Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams pulling from the Babe Ruth ranks the numbers would go down, but not this quickly.  Finally, local AAU teams have also pulled Bedford players out of the Bedford Babe Ruth's ranks giving us our current situation.

The straw that broke the camels back was the closing of Riley Field for the entire 2018 season. I have been complaining to the town for help and money to redo the 35 year old infield to no avail.  Then in December the Town/DPW decided to do a major renovation including the backstop, replacing the infield, foul territories, outfield, and putting in a warning track.  This is great news as we will have a new infield, but maybe no teams to play on it next year.

The school teams Lurgio, Freshman, JV, and Varsity will be taking up a majority of the SAU Field during the week and on Saturday's as well if there are makeups games.  The 13/14 Bedford Blackflies are also looking to play on SAU on the weekends.  This leaves little or no time for Babe Ruth to play.

  1. We will not have a Bedford Babe Ruth season this year, players can join Goffstown Babe Ruth for the 2018 season
    • It's March 14th and we have 11 paid players registered ( 2-16 yr old, 5-14's, and 4-13's) and 13 overall.
    • All 11 paid players registered will get full refunds
    • There is only field space for a limited season
    • I will reach out to the appropriate eligible Babe Ruth players/parents this fall/winter as well as plan with the BLL and either have Babe Ruth League next year or a Williamsport League option with BLL.
  2. We let the Bedford kids register in Goffstown Babe Ruth League, Joe Borges, Goffstown GBRL President has told me he'd let us bring in a full team(s) with managers & coaches or just register with no affiliation.
    • We will redirect the www.Bedfordbaberuth.com website to the Goffstown website, www.goffstownbaberuth.com
    • Goffstown Babe Ruth League registration deadline is March 24th.  Players can register online at www.goffstownbaberuth.com.  Cost is $160.
    • Would play all games at Allard Park in Goffstown, they don't have lights.
    • If we brought in a full team with coaching staff to Goffstown, we could play weekend games in Bedford.
      • If someone from Bedford wants to manage and field a Bedford team in Goffstown, let me know and I will help you thru the process

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
